10/26/08 Spartans Manhandle Orioles 45-0
The Spartans 7th Grade White football team finished their season yesterday with a resounding 45-0 drubbing of the Hartford Orioles Orange team at Hartford Town Hall Field. Behind two early Derek Hall to Michael Frei TD passes, covering 9 and 13 yards respectively, the Spartans never looked back as they outgained Hartford 279 yards to minus 21. West's other scores came on two Hall runs (5yds. and 10yds.), a safety credited to Nick Moreno and Jason Diels and a long interception return by Alec Miller towards the end of the game. Leading tacklers were Diels (11), Moreno (6), Hall (5), while Alec Miller, Donavon Ferguson, Frei, Andrew Sterr and Brad Rindfleisch each chipped in with four. Kyle Bartlein and Ferguson each had fumble recoveries as well to help propel the Spartans to a 6-3 overall record for the 2008 season.

10/4/08 Spartans Struggle Again
The Spartans 7th Grade White football struggled to replace injured FB/LB Justin Wagner and RB/LB Kolton Young yesterday as they lost 28-16 to the Germantown Blue team in Germantown. While Wagner suffered his injury against Oshkosh last week, Young broke his arm in practice on Thursday evening, which left the team terribly thin at the linebacker position heading into Saturdays game. With both injured players in attendance the team fought hard but came up short for the second week in a row. The Spartans scores came on a Derek Hall 5 yard run early in the second quarter and on a 25 yard Hall to Aric Miller pass just before the half. Leading tacklers were Jason Diels, Hall and Andrew Sterr.
Next game: Saturday at Hartford Orange @ 1:30PM

10/4/08 Turnovers Doom Spartans
The Spartans 7th Grade White football team turned the ball over seven times yesterday as they lost 24-0 to the undefeated Oshkosh Flyers at Oshkosh West High School. The game had an unfortunate start as the Flyers returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to gain an 8-0 advantage. Two plays later, Spartan RB/LB Justin Wagner had to leave the game after suffering a broken femur after an Oshkosh player landed on him. The team fought hard throughout the game and actually outgained the Flyers in yards from scrimmage, but every time they got into the red zone, the Spartans turned the ball over with a fumble or an interception. After the defeat, the Spartan players awarded the game ball to Justin and also decided that each player will be wearing a #38 sticker on the front of their helmets to honor their fallen teammate.
Next game: Saturday @ Germantown Gold at 1:30PM

The Spartan defense stopped Whitnall on their next possession before West went on a 67 yard scoring drive culminating with another Hall to Frei TD pass, this time a 12 yarder. West managed to score once more after the break as Nick Clark made a nice run up the middle on his way to a 20 yard TD. With West up 28-0, Whitnall finally managed to get on the board after a couple long runs set them up just outside the West five yard line. The offensive leaders in the game were Hall, who rushed for 109 yards on 10 carries with another 95 yards on 10-16 passing attempts for two TD's, as well as Nick Clark who rushed for 85 yards and a TD on 8 carries. 9/6/08 Spartans open AAYFL Season with win
The West Bend West Spartans 7th Grade White football team defeated the Slinger (Red) Owls today 30-12 in Slinger. The win gives the Spartans a 2-0 record in 2008, after they beat Random Lake 42-0 in a non-league game last week. The Spartans defense played tough against the Owls as they only gave up one score late in the game. Leading the way were Christian Madrinich (8 tackles), Donavon Ferguson (7 tackles), Justin Wagner (7 tackles) and Derek Hall (7 tackles, interception). The Owls other score came on a kickoff return. Although the Spartans struggled somewhat in their passing game, they were able to run the ball with ease behind the strong blocking of Andrew Sterr, Brad Rindfleisch, Jon Goetz, Jason Diels and Tommy Elsinger helping Spartan QB Derek Hall to lead the team in rushing with 12 carries for 126 yards and three TD's. West did manage to get one TD through the air when Ferguson hauled in a 12 yard bootleg pass from Hall in the right corner of the endzone. Michael Frei also had a big catch to set up another score just before halftime. West (2-0) now looks to avenge last year's heart-breaking 19-6 loss to Lake Country Black next week.

The West Bend West Spartans 6th Grade Blue football team defeated Thiensville-Mequon last Saturday by a score of 32-7 to finish the season with a 6-2 record. The Spartans ended the season on a high note after suffering two tough losses to the Lake Country (Arrowhead) program in the previous two weeks. West started off the scoring in the first quarter on a Derek Hall 1 yard QB sneak. 10/22/07 Spartans lose again
The West Bend West Spartans 6th Grade Blue football team traveled again to Hartland Arrowhead High School last Saturday to play the Lake Country Black team and ended up losing for the second week in a row by a score of 19-6. West (5-2) had trouble securing the ball in the second quarter as they fumbled four times. Each time the Spartans seemed to start moving the ball, they would end up turning it over. The tough Lake Country offense took full advantage of these miscues and quickly scored two touchdowns to go ahead 12-0 at the half. The play of the game was a 45 yard fumble recovery and TD return by Aric Miller. Aric's brother Alec caused the fumble when he hit the Chiefs ballcarrier from the side and Aric immediately scooped up the ball and took it to the house behind the fine blocking of several of his teammates. Other standout defenders were, Jason Diels (10 tackles-3 for loss), Derek Hall (10 tackles-5 for loss, forced fumble, blocked kick), Devin Ziarkowski (7 tackles-3 for loss), Justin Wagner (6 tackles), Jon Goetz (5 tackles) and Kyle Cannon (4 tackles). Andrew Duening had another strong showing on offense gathering in three catches for 59 yards. "Spartan of the  Week" honors went to Aric Miller who along with his touchdown return had five tackles on defense and rushed two times for 12 yards. Next game: Saturday at Thiensville-Mequon White (5-2) at 1:30PM.

The West Bend West Spartans 6th Grade Blue football team lost for the first time on Saturday when they traveled to Hartland Arrowhead High School to play the Lake Country Red Chiefs (4-2) and ended up on the short end of a 25-8 score. After the Chiefs scored on their first drive, West (5-1) came back and drove 63 yards to score on a Derek Hall to Aric Miller 14 yard pass. Hall's PAT kick gave the visitors an 8-6 lead heading into the middle of the second quarter. After Lake Country scored the go-ahead touchdown a short while later, the Spartans were faced with a 4th and 8 on their own 45 yard line. The Chiefs forced an incompletion and then  with no time on the clock managed to score on a long pass play to make the score 18-6 as the teams went into halftime. West was able to move the ball late in the second half, but the Chiefs tackled Justin Wagner just inches short of a first down at the Chiefs ten yard line to seal the victory. 10/7/07 Spartans win 36-6 over Cooney

The West Bend West Spartans 6th Grade Blue football team had a brief scare early in the game yesterday but eventually managed to take control on their way to a 36-6 victory over the Oconomowoc Purple (3-2) team at Harvey Bruhy Field in West Bend. West (5-0) did start out strong on their first offensive possession, going 65 yards in 5 plays with the eventual TD scored by Derek Hall on a 5 yard run. A short while later, Oconomowoc startled them a little as they marched 50 yards deep into West territory on their first possession. From that point forward the aggressive Spartan defense was able to shut down Cooneys strong passing game, giving the offense the chance to extend their lead. The second time West got the ball, speedy running back Alec Miller took the ball on a counter play and raced 88 yards to paydirt. After Hall's second PAT the home team was leading 16-0. The Spartans were able to score two more times before the half on TD passes from Hall to Andrew Duening and Alec Miller covering 23 and 5 yards respectively. With West up 28-0 early in the third quarter, Hall finished off West's scoring with a 21 yard run down the left sideline to put his team up 36-0. 9/24/07 West Blue Manhandles East 40-0
The Spartans 6th Grade Blue team hosted West Bend East on Saturday and pummeled the visitors 40-0 behind three first quarter touchdowns and another powerful defensive showing by the entire team. Unlike last week, the Spartans started out quickly on a 64 yard Touchdown run by Derek Hall on the second play of the game. Hall's successful PAT kick made the score 8-0. After a three and out by the West 'D', Hall promptly hit speedy Split End Andrew Duening in stride for a 27 yard TD. A short while later, Hall took another run to the house, this time from 20 yards out to make the score 22-0 at the end of the first quarter. Strong defensive play by Justin Wagner, Jon Goetz, Brad Rindfleisch, Nick Moreno and Jimmy Frasheski forced the Suns into punt formation and after the ensuing long snap sailed over the East Punters head for a safety, West was up 24-0 with a few minutes left in the half. After another West stop, East punted to Aric Miller who took it all the way to paydirt from 30 yards out and the Spartans went into the half with a 32-0 lead that they would not relinquish. The visiting team got on the board first late in the second quarter when Kyle Krier bulled his way in on a 5 yard TD run. Late in the 2nd quarter, West scored again on a beautifully executed counter play to Justin Wagner from 44 yards out. Hall ran in the extra point to give West a 14-0 lead at the half. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Jake Duening took a broken play to the house on a 21 yard run to put the Spartans up 20-0. The only Whitnall score of the day came a couple of drives later on a 35 yard run. The West Spartans beat the Cudahy Bulldogs 39-12 today at Bruhy Field in West Bend. West also outgained the Bulldogs in total yards 337-39 to take their season record to 4-1-1. The strong blocking of West offensive linemen Bryce Schmidt, Brad Rindfleisch, Andrew Riehl, Jon Goetz and Jake Endlich allowed Derek Hall to rush for 90 yards and three touchdowns. The team also totaled another 124 yards in passing for another score. The most exciting play of the season was made in the second quarter when WR Kolton Young took a reverse from RB Justin Wagner and made a beautiful pass to the QB, Hall who had pitched the ball to Wagner and then proceeded to run down the right sideline to get wide open. The play netted 42 yards and took the Spartans down to the Cudahy 15 yard line with Jake Duening eventually scoring on a three yard run to put Spartans up 20-0. 9/30/06 Young Spartans down Rams 14-0!
The West Spartan football team rebounded from a tough loss at Oconomowoc the previous week by playing dominating defense in defeating Random Lake 14-0 at Harvey Bruhy Field last Saturday. The Spartan's  stifling defense held the Rams to minus 6 yards of total offense for the game. Leading tacklers for the Spartans were Jon Goetz (5 tackles), Jimmy Frasheski (4 tackles, 1 sack) and Jake Thomas (3 tackles). Derek Hall also came up with a nice interception just before halftime. West's TD's were scored by Jake and Andrew Duening, on a 9 yard run and a 25 yard pass reception from Derek Hall respectively. Hall also passed to Jake Duening and Justin Wagner for one PAT each. The team is looking forward to taking on cross town rival West Bend East next Saturday on Pick Field at 1PM. It's East/West week for all levels and the varsity is looking to clinch a WIAA playoff berth with a win. They also can tie the school record for wins with six. The last time they had six wins was 1982. We hope to see you there.
9/23/06 Cooney Edges Spartans 14-7!
The West Spartans suffered their first loss of the season today to the undefeated Oconomowoc Purple squad 14-7. Unfortunately, West had several long plays called back on questionable calls from officials that would have made the game much more interesting. With the young Spartans down 14-0 at the end of the third quarter, Derek Hall hit WR Andrew Duening on a post route for a 56 yard TD. After a Hall to Jake Duening pass for extra point, West was down 14-7 at the start of the 4th quarter. The Spartans (1-1-1) then had a chance to tie the score after recovering a fumble late in the game, but the Coons turned them back to move their record to 3-0. Kyle Krier and Justin Wagner also came through with some nice plays on offense and on defense, the team was led by Devin Ziarkowski (8 tackles), Kolton Young and Hall (each with 5 tackles), Jake Thomas (4 tackles and 1 sack) and Bryce Schmidt (3 tackles). Nathan Boldt, Aric Miller and Austin Wolford also played well in the defensive secondary. The team returns to more friendly confines this week as it hosts the RandomLake Rams Saturday at 1:30PM.

9/16/06 Spartans Win!
The Spartan 5th Graders were victorious today, defeating the Lake Country Black team 12-0 at Arrowhead Stadium. It was another strong defensive effort, led by James Frasheski, Jake Thomas, Kolton Young, Nathan Boldt, Derek Hall, Kyle Krier, Ryan Morrison and Trent Woeckner, that really set the tone. Andrew Duening scored the first passing TD of the season for the Spartans on a 19 strike from Hall in the 1st quarter. The other score came in the 4th quarter when Kyle Krier made a nice interception and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown. Woeckner also had an interception to stop Lake Country on the last play of the game. The Spartans travel to Oconomowoc this week to play the Cooney.

9/9/06 Spartans Tie in Opener
The West Bend West Spartans 5th Grade football team opened the 2006 season with a 6-6 tie today against an athletic Mukwonago Gold squad. Behind the strong blocking of Abdrew Riehl, Jon Goetz, Brad Rindfieish, Chandler Peterson and Bryce Schmidt, Derek Hall was able to pound it in for a 4 yard TD to give the Spartans a 6-0 lead late in the second quarter. The Spartan defense held their opponent to negative yards until late in the 4th quarter when Mukwonago was able to pass the ball to their tight end who took it in stride and race 96 yards to paydirt with 34 seconds to go in the game. The score came just after West was trying to seal the victory on Mukwonago's one yard line as they were in a second and goal situation when Hall and FB Jake Duening had a miscommunication in the backfield and the resulting fumble handed the ball back to Mukwonago with under a minute left. The late score ruined what was otherwise a superior defensive effort by the Spartans. Mukwonago in fact, did not have even one positive yard of offense prior to the long pass. One bright spot for the home team was Andrew Duening who made a nice catch for a 22 yard reception in the second quarter. Defensively the Spartans were led by Hall, Nathan Boldt, Goetz, Austyn Wolford, Aric Miller and Alec Miller. The Spartans look to get their first win next week as they travel to Hartland to play a tough Lake Country Black team. The LC Black team defeated the Brookfield East Navy team 19-0 last week.
